Cycling Exploits

Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Crossing the Alps & other cycling trips

Raising Money for Good Causes

Our motivations for making this trip are many and various and by no means wholly altruistic. Nevertheless, our exploit has given us the chance to raise some money, through sponsorship of our efforts. If we have inspired you to contribute to something worthwhile, the following charities would be our recommendations:

Link Overseas Exchange.

This local organisation is one dear to our hearts because it has been responsible for sending a number of young people from Ceres to parts of the developing world to work as volunteers. In particular, some of our young people are either currently in Sri Lanka, recently returned or about to go there and, clearly, since Boxing Day 2004, this has become a different sort of helping out. If you want to support them, please do.

The Dalgairn Centre, Cupar -

Ken Campbell raised 800 pounds in sponsorship for the Centre where he works during the first leg of our journey (St Andrews to Pamplona). The Dalgairn Centre exists to give opportunities for people with learning difficulties to spend their time constructively developing their skills. If you would like to support the work of the Centre further, please contact Ken directly or through the Centre.

Oxfam's online gift service.

This is the now famous site where Oxfam sold 30,000 goats as "must have" presents for Christmas 2004. The goats went to developing countries. Much better for body and soul than a box of Quality Street. They were also selling bicycles in the same way for about 35 pounds a throw but we notice that Tsunami relief is now taking priority on the site. Anyway, if you want to make a difference in an imaginative way, go there!

University of St Andrews Appeal Fund..

St Andrews is a great place to be a student and provides wonderful educational opportunties (such as being taught by Gustavo!). However, being a student can be very costly and many bright and talented people are deterred from applying for that reason only. Consequently, the University is busy raising money to fund more scholarships and bursaries in order to support its aspiration to make the opportunity of a place at St Andrews available to all those who could benefit from it, regardless of their means. If you want to help, please make a donation, however large or small. It will be well used.
